Thailand: Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok

If you’ll be in Bangkok over the weekend then a visit to the Chatuchak Weekend Market is a must. It’s the biggest market in Thailand with over 15,000 stalls selling absolutely everything!

We took the metro train to stop Chatuchak Park and was faced with the market right outside the station.

They sell literally everything, but there was thing in particular I was after: mango and sticky rice. I’d seen a lot of it across Pinterest and Instagram when researching Thailand and expected to see it everywhere, but surprisingly not. In the market, the main food stall seemed to be coconut ice cream.

At the majority of stalls they are making it fresh and have a small army behind the counter cracking coconuts, pouring the water out and preparing the young coconut flesh for consumption. We grabbed our ice creams from Coco JJ, and I spotted they have quite a few stalls throughout the market.

For other refreshing treats, there are many vendors making ice poles. How old school!?

After winding around the endless market walkways, I still had no mango and sticky rice. Then, finally, mum spotted a sign for @345Sweet coconut sticky rice, fresh juicy mango and more coconut drizzle for good measure. Well worth the wait, and would you look at that presentation!

And so the mango and sticky rice love affair began…
