The Diner, Spitalfields

On our most recent date night, my boyfriend and I went to The Diner in Spitalfields Market. I’d been to the one in Shoreditch before with my girlfriends and can’t remember what I had but knew I’d have to go back with Kyle.

They have a summer drinks menu at the moment which featured this Teajito!

Kyle ordered the BCC Dog, which is a beef frank chili dog with cheese and chopped bacon. He wasn’t too keen on the chili dog as it seemed like they had put chili in the bun before placing in a normal hot dog. It looked amazing though.

I ordered the halloumi burger; grilled halloumi, chargrilled red peppers & sliced avocado on a diner bun with pesto. I skinny-fied the burger by not eating the top bun and it didn’t really need it anyway. The halloumi, peppers and avocado were so light they didn’t need all the bread.

I ordered the sweet potato fries with my burger and Kyle got the classic fries. The meals don’t come with fries so you have to order them as a side. We didn’t realise each portion could easily feed two so we ended up leaving nearly half of each. The sweet potato fries were so good, much better than Gourmet Burger Kitchen ones.

Even after squeezing as many sweet potato fries as possible into my mouth, I managed to save some space for dessert. I wish restaurants did dessert platters where you can just get a bit of everything, because I definitely would order it. I was very close to ordering the warm chocolate and peanut cookie, peanut butter ice cream and butterscotch sauce (even typing that made me want it right now) but instead went for the waffles, roast bananas and ice cream.

Kyle and I went to Spain in June, which is partially the reason for my lack of posts then, and I had a serious craving for a waffle one evening. We stayed in Salou which had lots of restaurants and bars so on one stroll we went waffle hunting. Crepes were readily available pretty much everywhere so we knew waffles couldn’t be far. After looking at many Spanish picture menus we worked out the Spanish for waffles is ‘gofres’, and I got me a gofres. You could tell it was just a reheated ready made waffle but the ice cream I got with it was very nice. The waffles at The Diner were hot, light and fresh. The bananas were sweet and delicious and I just love bananas so much om nom nom. I would definitely have that again.

Everyone should put The Diner on their list of places to eat in London.
